The Urban Timber Process

Professional arborists assess the safety and health of trees and, if the tree must be removed, they work with a miller to create urban timber

Tree Removal and
Milling Process

Professional arborists, both employed by a city and from the local tree care industry, are consulted by cities and homeowners to assess the safety and health of trees.  These arborists assess the tree and recommend a plan of action. Whether a tree care plan or removal and replacement, arborists recommend what is best for the tree and the client who they are serving. If a tree needs to be removed, the arborist safely removes the tree and works with a professional miller to coordinate safe transport of the tree where it will then be milled into useable urban timber for makers.

Opportunities

As a member of the Urban Wood Network, tree care companies and millers will recognize many benefits and opportunities:

  • Resources to support a new urban timber service that can be provided to your clients for all eligible tree removals.

  • Education and resources to develop new services that will enhance your profitability and service to your clients.

  • Improved supply chain of high quality local urban timber that supports a sustainable local urban timber industry. This industry will begin in the Treasure Valley with potential to grow across Idaho and into surrounding states.

  • Marketing of your company as an innovator and leader in sustainability and for supporting local small business growth.
